Why it is named Sysiphus

We named it on purpose. In the myth, Sisyphus is condemned to push a boulder up a hill for eternity — every time he nears the top, it rolls back down, forever. It’s the oldest metaphor there is for work that never actually finishes.

So we built the version where the boulder stays up. An engine that doesn’t restart every time you edit a prompt. Memory that doesn’t get re-read from scratch on every turn. A runtime that finishes the work instead of rolling back to the bottom on every deploy.

What’s actually different

Sysiphus is our own Python engine. It is not an upstream image, and it does not wait on someone else’s release schedule.

01

Light on memory

An idle agent uses about 53 MiB of memory. That is the median of the agents running on our production server on 9 October 2026; the smallest used 42 MiB and the largest 229 MiB.

02

Zero-restart everything

Model, personality, connectors, SOUL — every change applies on the agent’s next turn. No container restart, no dropped conversation, no boot loop.

03

True token streaming

Replies stream token-by-token over a real HTTP/SSE turn API, with a genuine mid-run abort and steer — not an opaque process you can only watch from the outside.

04

Instant memory recall

A local hybrid search index (keyword + embeddings) covers everything an agent has ever written, including its archive. Write a memory this turn, recall it the next.

05

Full scheduling, no shell-outs

Cron, one-shot tasks and heartbeats run natively in the engine with a real CRUD API behind the Tasks tab — not a wrapper around someone else’s CLI.

06

Ours, end to end

Sysiphus is our own Python codebase — no upstream image, no vendor patches to track, no surprise breakage on someone else’s release schedule.

OpenClaw The upstream runtime Agentura started on. It remains available for existing setups.
Sysiphus Agentura’s own engine. No restart on every change, with hybrid memory, native scheduling and true streaming.

How it came to be

Agentura was built from the ground up by one founder who needed reliable agents to look after his customers. Sysiphus is the engine that work asked for.

  1. The first agents.

He chose OpenClaw and built a few agents to help with customer service.

  2. Then, a team.

Then came the bigger idea: bring them together, so they could communicate, share context, and work as a team.

  3. An engine of our own.

That work grew into Sysiphus: Agentura’s own AI agent engine, built to unite the agent harness with the original vision of a company of agents.

What about OpenClaw?

OpenClaw is where Agentura started, and it’s still available as a legacy runtime for existing setups. Sysiphus is what every new agent runs on now — it’s the engine, not a fallback.
